How to Get Your Group into Nature in Puerto Rico

Take your group from the conference room to the great outdoors for an unforgettable experience.

After sitting in a convention center, boardroom, or event hall for several days, your attendees are going to be craving sunshine and fresh air, especially when the meeting destination is a tropical island. Local DMCs offer one-of-a-kind nature excursions that range from thrilling to relaxing. Puerto Rico offers spectacular scenery as well as a multitude of options for outdoor activities like hiking, ziplining, kayaking, snorkeling, and more.

On the Ocean

Groups who enjoy sailing may want to hit the high seas on a catamaran sail & snorkel adventure, like the one offered by Castillo Tours DMC. This daytrip sets sail from Fajardo’s Villa Marina, about an hour’s drive from San Juan, and includes a relaxing sightseeing cruise, a beach day on an uninhabited island, and complimentary snorkeling gear to marvel at the varied marine life in the crystal-clear water.

This experience also includes drinks and a BBQ Party where participants will savor local lobster tails, shrimp kabobs, grilled fish, fresh veggies, crisp salads, and sweet desserts right on the beach thanks to full catering service and beachside seating under a tent. For entertainment, guests have access to non-motorized water toys such as kayaks & paddleboards, a volleyball net, footballs, soccer balls, and other items. Castillo Tours can provide this type of event for up to 350 guests with transportation available from metro area hotels.

Mountains and Rainforests

If your guests would rather get out into the wilderness for a hike in Puerto Rico’s famous El Yunque rainforest, there are options like Group Services Inc.’s El Yunque Twilight Tour. Guests will start out with an easy walk along the Angelito trail, learning fun facts about the rainforest and the flora and fauna endemic to Puerto Rico. Then the group will stop for a refreshing dip into the Mameyes river at the end of the trail. On this particular tour, though, the best part is yet to come.

As night begins to fall, participants will hike back along the trail with red headlights, stopping to discover hidden wildlife like coquí frogs, cucubanos (fireflies) which light up the forest with their bright green light, and múcaros, the Spanish word for owls. Variations on this tour are offered by several DMCs during the day as well, and can include lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Memorable Adventures

To get the most out of your group’s time on the island, DMCs like Dragonfly Adventures offer signature tours combining multiple experiences. Start with a hike in the rainforest followed by an ATV adventure through a farm in the foothills of El Yunque, leading to a river where they will meet with a local chef for a unique gastronomic experience including Spanish paella and cocktails.

These are just some examples of tours and excursions offered by local DMCs in Puerto Rico. Other activities include ziplining in the mountains, horseback riding tours along the beach, kayaking through a bioluminescent bay, tarpon and deep sea fishing, and many other memorable excursions.
