The Amigos de las Tortugas Marinas is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of leatherback turtles, as well as the education of the wider public on the importance of protecting our natural environment. ATMAR as the organization is also called, is based out of the town of Maunabo. Their headquarters, Centro Tortuguero, also function as a small educational museum.
Their educational trips to watch leatherbacks turtles begin in mid-April through mid-June, and they're held on Fridays and Saturdays only. The group's size for turtle watching is 15 people.
