Discover Puerto Rico Strengthens Its Community Commitment Through Visit to Casa de Niños Manuel Fernández Juncos
As part of its commitment to supporting the well-being of the communities that make Puerto Rico a unique destination, Discover Puerto Rico held its first corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative with a visit to Casa de Niños Manuel Fernández Juncos, a nonprofit organization celebrating 120 years of service and dedication to Puerto Rican children and youth.
Held on October 9, the initiative brought together a group of Discover Puerto Rico employees, led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jorge L. Pérez, who spent the afternoon sharing games, pizza, recreational activities, and meaningful moments with the children at the institution. Beyond the recreational activities, the visit provided an opportunity to share time, joy, and kindness while recognizing the importance of supporting organizations that work every day to improve the well-being of local communities.
“At Discover Puerto Rico, we have the privilege of showcasing the best of our Island to the world, but we also have a responsibility to contribute to the well-being of the communities that bring our destination to life. Puerto Rico is much more than its natural attractions, culture, and experiences; above all, it is its people. That is why we believe compassion and service should be part of who we are as an organization. Spending time with these children, giving them a little of our time, and receiving so many smiles in return reminds us that small gestures can have a meaningful impact. I am proud to see our team embrace this commitment with such enthusiasm and compassion,” Pérez said.
Founded in 1906 by educator, journalist, and philanthropist Manuel Fernández Juncos, Casa de Niños Manuel Fernández Juncos is one of Puerto Rico's longest-serving child welfare institutions. For more than a century, it has provided shelter, care, educational support, and services focused on the overall development of children and young people facing vulnerable circumstances, offering an environment of care, stability, and opportunities for their future.
This first volunteer initiative is part of the efforts led by Discover Puerto Rico's Community Engagement department, which seeks to build stronger relationships with communities across the Island and foster an organizational culture rooted in participation, social awareness, and service.
“We want this to be the beginning of a closer, more active relationship with Puerto Rico's community organizations. Our commitment to the destination also means recognizing and supporting those who work in different ways to build a better society. When we share our time and talents, we all have something to contribute and much to learn,” the executive added.
The activity marks the beginning of a series of corporate social responsibility initiatives that Discover Puerto Rico will carry out throughout the current fiscal year in collaboration with various community organizations. Through these experiences, the organization aims to provide employees with opportunities to participate directly in projects that positively contribute to the quality of life of Puerto Ricans.
With this initiative, Discover Puerto Rico reaffirms that promoting the destination also means valuing its people, building stronger community relationships, and helping ensure that tourism development goes hand in hand with a genuine commitment to the well-being of Puerto Rico.
