Discover Puerto Rico Connects with Tourism Businesses in Luquillo
As part of the ongoing site visits and industry engagement efforts led by Discover Puerto Rico alongside local businesses and partners, a recent visit to Luquillo highlighted a variety of local concepts centered around hospitality, gastronomy, wellness, nature, and cultural experiences.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore how small and medium-sized businesses in the region continue to diversify the destination’s tourism offerings through authentic, community-driven experiences.
One of the stops included Playa La Pared, known for its strong currents and as a beach not suitable for swimming, but also recognized as an important location within Puerto Rico’s surfing culture. There, participants learned more about Surfing Puerto Rico, an initiative led by a national surfing champion whose daughter now continues the family legacy. In addition to offering group and private surfing lessons for visitors and large groups, the organization also hosts community clinics for children through donation-based initiatives and supports voluntary beach safety efforts in the area.
The tour also included visits to businesses such as Caféina Luquillo, a young beachfront brunch concept that also offers wellness experiences like yoga classes; Casa Coral Luquillo, a boutique-style hostel featuring private and shared accommodations just steps from the beach; Finca Las Cabras, a camper-style lodging concept and event venue surrounded by nature; and Sama, an oceanfront restaurant that forms part of the area’s growing culinary scene.
The experience concluded with a visit to Finca PruVite an agritourism project established in 2020 after years of participating in agricultural and artisan fairs. Inspired by her grandmother’s legacy, the founder began working with criollo cacao and now manages more than 850 cacao trees. The space offers educational tours lasting approximately one and a half to two hours, allowing visitors to learn more about cacao production and local agriculture.
These visits continue to serve as valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships with local businesses, better understand their needs, and share tools, resources, and initiatives that can support the continued growth of their experiences and operations.
