Discover Puerto Rico Joins the First Playeasy Innovators Summit
Discover Puerto Rico participated in the first Playeasy Innovators Summit, a gathering that brought together destinations and sports event organizers from across the United States to share strategies, explore opportunities, and maximize the use of this innovative digital platform.
Playeasy is the leading sports tourism tool in the United States, connecting organizers with more than 300 destinations and 15,000 facilities, while also helping travelers and fans discover sporting experiences throughout the region.
For Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) like Discover Puerto Rico, Playeasy represents a strategic channel to showcase venues, events, and attractions, as well as to identify trends and strengthen relationships with event organizers.
Participation in the summit provided firsthand insight into the platform’s new features, opportunities to interact with industry leaders, and a chance to position Puerto Rico’s brand in a key space for the growth of the sports segment.
The two-and-a-half-day event included seminars, workshops, and presentations from organizers looking to expand their events to new destinations. Networking activities and site visits also fostered strategic connections. For Discover Puerto Rico, this participation not only reinforced its presence in the latest sports tourism trends but also opened the door to new business opportunities and future events that will generate significant economic impact for the Island.
One of the highlights of the summit was the launch of the Playeasy Purpose Project, an initiative that recognizes and supports nonprofit organizations that use sports as a tool for social, educational, and community development. As part of the program, participating cities were invited to nominate local organizations with relevant projects. Discover Puerto Rico nominated the Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico, highlighting its long history of using sports to engage underserved communities and promote the well-being of children, youth, and their families.
The Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico was named one of five national winners and received a $4,000 donation. This support will help strengthen its programs, including Triple Play, an annual event that gathers all the clubs on the Island for a day of games, competitions, and family activities. The visibility gained through the Playeasy Purpose Project also paves the way for additional fundraising opportunities and potential federal funding.
The relationship between Discover Puerto Rico and the Boys & Girls Club has remained strong in recent years, with collaborations to promote community initiatives and host training sessions or sports clinics for visitors. This recognition reaffirms the importance of strengthening partnerships between the tourism sector and community organizations, demonstrating how sports can be a driver of both social and economic development for Puerto Rico.
With upcoming events such as the World Domino Championship, the Discover Puerto Rico Shootout in women’s basketball, the Pan American Taekwondo Championship, and the Pan American Acrobatic Gymnastics Championship, the sports tourism segment continues to position Puerto Rico as an ideal destination to combine competition, community, and culture.
