To celebrate the longest holiday season in the Western Hemisphere, Discover Puerto Rico launched “Mi Casa, Mi Navidad,” an immersive digital experience on the organization’s website that allowed users to connect with the warmth, joy, and unique traditions of Puerto Rican Christmas. The initiative, inspired by an original storybook illustrated by a local artist, brought Puerto Rican culture, music, and flavors to life through interactive storytelling and gamified elements.
Discover Puerto Rico Launches “Mi Casa, Mi Navidad”: An Immersive Digital Journey Through the Island’s Holiday Traditions
The experience includes a bilingual digital storybook, an immersive audio narration, and recipe cards that brought the magic of the holidays into homes around the world.
This innovative platform reflects Discover Puerto Rico’s commitment to highlighting Puerto Rican culture, educating visitors, and preserving multigenerational stories.
“We are very excited about this project because it is a beautiful tribute to our culture—one that invites people to live it, feel it, and savor it. It is a project that resonates with travelers, the Puerto Rican diaspora, and the local community. It was developed by our internal team with local talent, and we are extremely proud of the results,” said Jorge L. Pérez, Chief Executive Officer of Discover Puerto Rico.
“Mi Casa, Mi Navidad” was developed in collaboration with local artists Mundo Nana and Nina, and illustrator Waldemar Lozada. The story was narrated by Discover Puerto Rico’s Director of Industry Affairs, Janid Ortiz.
The project combined talent, technology, and tradition to offer a virtual window into a Puerto Rican home during the holidays.
“For us, it is important to share the richness of Puerto Rican traditions with everyone—whether they are part of the Puerto Rican diaspora, local residents, visitors to our island, or people discovering our culture for the first time. With Mi Casa, Mi Navidad, we want people around the world to experience the warmth and togetherness that define our holiday season,” said Dalissa Zeda, Director of Digital Marketing, highlighting its reach to visitors, locals, and the diaspora.
“This launch is a vibrant tribute to Puerto Rico’s culture and to the joy that brings us together during the holidays,” added Storm Tussey, Chief Marketing Officer of Discover Puerto Rico. “Through this initiative, we invite visitors to connect authentically with the island and experience its true spirit firsthand.”
Elements of the Experience
- An interactive virtual hub: A dedicated webpage that connects all components of the campaign, including the story, audio narration, and downloadable recipes.
- A bilingual digital storybook (eBook): A four-chapter story available in English and Spanish, following two sisters who travel to Puerto Rico and rediscover the meaning of Christmas through family traditions.
- The audiobook: A bilingual and immersive edition enriched with ambient sounds—such as the coquí’s chirp, laughter, and traditional instruments—that bring every chapter to life.
- Iconic Puerto Rican recipes: Step-by-step guides to preparing traditional holiday dishes inspired by the Nochebuena chapter, including pernil, arroz con gandules, and coquito.
A Story of Family, Tradition, and Discovery
In the story, audiences follow sisters Lara and Lía as they reconnect with their Puerto Rican roots, guided by their grandparents. Along the way, they experience the joy of parrandas, learn about the Three Kings, and discover the meaning of Nochebuena. The narrative is nostalgic and warm, highlighting family unity, cultural pride, and the rhythm of Puerto Rican life.
“Seeing our childhood come to life through our words and Waldemar’s illustrations has been the most special part of this collaboration, reflecting our Puerto Rican roots and our love for family,” said Caroll and Joanne López from the creative studio Mundo Nana & Nina. “We are excited to imagine each family connecting with this story and enjoying it as much as we did.”
“Collaborating with Discover Puerto Rico and so many talented people ensures that this heartfelt project reaches audiences both on and off the island,” added illustrator Waldemar Lozada. “As a Puerto Rican artist, it is a wonderful opportunity to share my work and passion for art with the world.”
