A glowing trail that follows your cursor, real visitor videos filled with awe, and a map inviting you to plan the perfect trip—this is how Discover Puerto Rico’s newly launched web section brings one of the Island’s natural wonders to life: its three bioluminescent bays.
Since March, Discover Puerto Rico’s website has featured an interactive digital experience dedicated exclusively to Puerto Rico’s bioluminescent bays. With an engaging and innovative design, the new section allows users to simulate the shimmering water effect by moving their cursor across the screen—mimicking the glow that appears when these unique ecosystems are disturbed.
The initiative aims not only to capture users' attention but to inspire them to experience these magical places in person. Through visual and educational content, the site explains what bioluminescence is, what causes it, and why it's so special that a small island like Puerto Rico is home to three active bays: La Parguera in Lajas, Laguna Grande in Fajardo, and Mosquito Bay in Vieques.
In addition to the visual experience, the section features a map pinpointing the location of all three bays, helping users geographically situate them and begin planning a trip around this natural phenomenon. The site also lists certified tour operators vetted by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, making it easier to book trusted excursions.
