New Discount Program Aims to Enhance the Convention Attendee experience
The Puerto Rico Convention Center is known as the largest and most technologically advanced venue in the Caribbean.
Starting 2026 strong, Discover Puerto Rico will implement the Destination VIP Access Program, an initiative aimed at visitors traveling to the Island to attend conventions and conferences, with the goal of maximizing positive impact on the destination.
The program is built around three strategic pillars: extending length of stay, enhancing the visitor experience, and increasing economic impact for industry partners and the Island’s economy overall.
To support longer stays, the initiative encourages convention attendees to arrive before their event or extend their visit afterward, allowing them to enjoy Puerto Rico’s tourism offerings, including gastronomy, cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, and its crystal-clear beaches.
The Destination VIP Access Program also seeks to elevate the guest experience by providing access to exclusive offers and experiences that allow visitors to discover Puerto Rico beyond the convention center or host hotel.
The third pillar focuses on economic impact, with particular emphasis on small and medium-sized businesses across the Island. The program will promote visitor movement to different regions, encouraging exploration beyond the metropolitan area.
The initiative will operate through a platform where local businesses can offer exclusive discounts and promotions for convention visitors, provided they represent real value to the consumer. For example, an adventure attraction might offer a 25% discount, while a food tour in Old San Juan could provide a 15% discount—designed to incentivize participation and local consumption.
The Destination VIP Access Program will feature its own landing page within the Discover Puerto Rico website. This page will be shared with meeting planners, who will distribute it to attendees early in the event registration process, providing advance visibility of services available across the Island.
Visitors will be able to explore offers by region and access discounts on restaurants, hotels, paradores, tours, transportation, and retail businesses based on their location.
Participation in the program is completely free for industry partners. The only requirement is to submit an attractive offer that delivers value to visitors. In return, businesses gain exposure to an audience that may not otherwise discover their services during a traditional conference stay.
Through this initiative, Discover Puerto Rico reaffirms its commitment to connecting visitors with the Island’s rich and diverse experiences, promoting a more inclusive, sustainable, and higher-impact tourism model.
