Board of Directors reaffirms its commitment to continuity, collaboration, and the strengthening of the tourism industry, ushering in a new era of stability and shared vision
Discover Puerto Rico’s Board of Directors has elected new leadership from the private sector, led by destination development and management specialist Carla Campos as Chair. Hotelier Raúl Bustamante was selected as Vice Chair, developer Federico Stubbe as Treasurer, and Juan Rodríguez, representative of the Paradores Association, as Secretary.
Campos previously served on the Board while holding the position of Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, during which she helped facilitate the transition of international marketing responsibilities to Discover Puerto Rico at its inception. Her new role comes with the responsibility of leading this new phase of collaboration and strategic evolution for the organization, amid an administrative transition and key leadership changes.
“Discover Puerto Rico has been under constant observation, as is natural for any entity with public impact. The organization has made undeniable contributions to the historic performance of Puerto Rico’s tourism sector in recent years. Our responsibility now is to look ahead and ensure that we build upon this solid foundation, maintaining what has worked well and being transparent about the areas that, once strengthened, will allow us to achieve long-term stability. I am proud to lead a Board of top-tier professionals with whom I share a future-oriented vision of security, continuity, and optimism,” said Campos.
The meeting was attended by the full Board, including ex officio members: Verónica Ferraiouli (Secretary of State and Executive Director of the Convention Center District Authority), Willianette Robles (Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company), Sebastián Negrón (Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce), and legislative representatives Obed Rojas and Katherine Erazo.
The new Chair was tasked with strengthening ties with public sector representatives to consolidate the institutional support needed to ensure the DMO’s operational continuity beyond its current contract period, which ends in 2028.
“For the Government of Puerto Rico and Governor Jenniffer González Colón’s administration, there has never been any doubt that the DMO plays a key role for our destination: ensuring the continuity of marketing even amid changes in government. That said, the Governor has echoed the public’s desire for improved coordination with industry sectors and for an objective evaluation of performance. The new Chair, who operates in the private sector and has extensive public experience, is the ideal person to build that bridge between the industry, the administration, and our people,” stated the ex officio members in a joint declaration.
The 13-member Board also includes hoteliers Loisse Herger and José M. Suárez, Aerostar CEO Jorge Hernández, and Graciela Eleta, representing Foundation for Puerto Rico.
“The reality is that, as a Board, we face the monumental task of identifying new CEO and CMO leadership, building a budget for the upcoming fiscal year, and ensuring the DMO’s continuity beyond 2028, all while navigating challenging macroeconomic dynamics for the tourism sector. This is an extraordinary opportunity to chart a new chapter. As a Board, we are united in vision, committed to the future, and ready to work with agility, effectiveness, and transparency,” concluded Campos.
