Puerto Rico Continues Expanding Its Presence in Strategic Tourism Markets
From adventure experiences and sports tourism to meetings, incentives, and luxury travel, Puerto Rico continues strengthening its presence across multiple segments of the global tourism industry.
Over the past several weeks, Discover Puerto Rico advanced new collaborations, participated in strategic industry engagements, and promoted the Island to organizers, planners, and travel advisors, creating new opportunities to attract future visitors, groups, and events to the destination.
Puerto Rico Brings Its Adventure Offerings to a Global Audience
The recent collaboration between Discover Puerto Rico and Matador Network marks another step in the Island’s international promotion as a destination for adventure and premium experiences. Through the three-part series Puerto Rico: Mountains to Coast, available on Roku, Puerto Rico is presented as a destination for personal reconnection, nature, and exploration.
The production highlights experiences such as hiking, mountain biking, and diving while showcasing the Island’s natural and cultural diversity through an authentic local perspective. The initiative aims to continue expanding Puerto Rico’s visibility within the adventure and luxury travel segments while inspiring travelers to discover new experiences throughout the Island.
New Opportunities for Sports Tourism
As part of its ongoing collaboration with Northstar Meetings Group/TravelSports, Discover Puerto Rico recently participated in the TravelIsland Series 2026, a strategic initiative focused on strengthening Puerto Rico’s positioning within the sports tourism segment.
The initiative brought together event organizers and leaders from disciplines including basketball, soccer, volleyball, esports, gymnastics, baseball, and table tennis, among others, creating new connections and opportunities for future sporting events on the Island.
These efforts continue opening the door to initiatives with the potential to generate economic impact and further position Puerto Rico as a destination for sporting events.
Adding to this momentum is the official announcement of the inaugural Puerto Rico Bowl, scheduled for December 2026 at Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel in Bayamón. The event will result from a collaboration between Complete Sports Management (CSM), ESPN Events, and Discover Puerto Rico, and will be nationally televised on ESPN.
Puerto Rico Strengthens Connections in Meetings and Incentive Travel
Within the meetings, incentives, and conventions segment, Discover Puerto Rico participated in strategic events such as the CSCAA Annual Meetings and Conventions in Chicago and Maritz Elevate in Arizona, where Puerto Rico was presented as an ideal destination for training, meetings, and incentive travel in the Caribbean.
In addition, the Island welcomed planners and prospective clients through a familiarization trip called Destination Retreat, offering immersive experiences focused on Puerto Rico’s tourism, culinary, and experiential offerings. For many attendees, it was their first visit to Puerto Rico, and several expressed interest in bringing future groups and events to the Island.
International Promotion Efforts Continue
The leisure tourism team also strengthened promotional efforts and relationships with travel advisors through presentations, one-on-one meetings, and specialized events held in Orlando, Las Vegas, and virtual platforms focused on luxury travel.
These initiatives included conferences, trade shows, panels, and destination interviews that reached thousands of travel advisors across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In addition, Discover Puerto Rico continues to develop international collaborations with operators and platforms in markets such as Portugal and Spain.
