Online travel searches for Puerto Rico have surged significantly this year
Interest in visiting Puerto Rico has solidified, positioning the Island as the fastest-growing Caribbean destination in terms of travel searches since January 2025, with a 44% increase, according to the third edition of the Caribbean Travel Trends 2025 report, published by ForwardKeys and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA).
The report indicates a stable outlook for Caribbean travel intent, with flight search patterns remaining similar to 2024. However, a closer analysis reveals that some destinations are significantly outperforming the regional year-over-year growth average.
Puerto Rico saw the highest percentage growth—up 44% compared to the same period in 2024. In addition to strong destination marketing efforts, this spike was largely fueled by the announcement of Bad Bunny’s concert residency between July and September. The initiative aims to stimulate the Island’s economy through tourism and included stay packages coordinated with the hospitality industry and Discover Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico also ranked second in total Caribbean destination searches, capturing 16.6% of all queries by potential travelers. The Dominican Republic led with 31.9%.
Interestingly, a significant portion of the searches originated from markets not typically associated with Puerto Rican tourism, such as Los Angeles, Mexico City, San Diego, San Francisco, and Santiago.
The Caribbean Travel Trends 2025 report shows that while overall search levels in the region may be holding steady, music, cultural, and sports offerings are playing a key role in helping destinations stand out and attract more visitors.
