Record Results in the First Quarter of 2026 and Strong Outlook for the Summer Season
Discover Puerto Rico reported that the Island enters the summer of 2026 with strong tourism indicators following an outstanding first quarter that reaffirmed the destination’s strength, diversification, and competitiveness.
Among the key indicators are record lodging demand, increased tourism revenue, sustained growth in international markets, and positive booking projections for the months ahead. These results further position tourism as one of Puerto Rico’s leading drivers of economic development.
“The strength of our first-quarter results confirms that Puerto Rico continues to maintain extraordinary and well-diversified tourism momentum heading into the summer season. We are seeing how a consistent strategy focused on marketing, air connectivity, and international promotion is translating into more visitors, longer stays, and greater economic impact for communities and businesses across the Island,” said Jorge L. Pérez, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico.
During the period, total lodging demand increased by 8% compared to the previous year. In addition, Puerto Rico closed 2025 with 7.9 million lodging room nights sold, representing 109% growth compared to 2019. Lodging revenue reached $1.99 billion, the highest figure recorded in the destination’s history.
Looking ahead to the summer season, forward booking data reflects between 9% and 16% more hotel room nights already booked through July, while short-term rentals also continue to maintain healthy momentum. These trends point to a strong season driven by travelers seeking authentic experiences, air connectivity, vibrant culture, and world-class hospitality.
As part of its strategy to capitalize on this momentum, Discover Puerto Rico recently launched its new marketing and advertising campaign, “Awaken Your Senses,” designed to inspire new travelers to discover the Island’s multisensory richness through its gastronomy, music, nature, culture, and unique identity. The initiative aims to elevate Puerto Rico’s consideration in key markets, increase travel intent, and continue converting global interest into visits, longer stays, and greater economic impact for the destination.
Market diversification efforts also continue to deliver results. Arrivals from Europe increased by 17%, while South America recorded 28% growth, reflecting the success of efforts to expand Puerto Rico’s presence beyond its traditional markets. New international routes continue strengthening connectivity with Latin America and Europe.
Additionally, tourism’s economic impact continues to be reflected in job creation and tax revenue generation. The leisure and hospitality sector reached a record 102,500 jobs in December 2025, while room tax collections surpassed $153 million, more than double the amount recorded in 2019.
“We remain cautiously optimistic. We recognize that external factors, including geopolitical developments and global economic conditions, may influence the industry. Nevertheless, Puerto Rico has a strong foundation upon which to continue building its tourism growth, driven by greater global visibility and a unique cultural offering,” Pérez added.
Discover Puerto Rico also reiterated the importance of continuing to elevate the visitor experience so that every traveler becomes an ambassador for the destination through recommendations and repeat visits. In summary, Puerto Rico enters the summer season with historic figures, healthy demand, and a robust tourism industry that continues generating economic benefits, jobs, and opportunities for communities and businesses across the Island.
