Sales Expands Business Opportunities in Puerto Rico and Beyond
Over the past few weeks, Discover Puerto Rico’s Sales team has maintained an active schedule both on and off the Island, participating in events focused on strengthening relationships with meetings professionals, associations, and other industry segments. From engagements in Chicago and Boston to initiatives held in Puerto Rico, these efforts have provided opportunities to showcase the destination, connect with new contacts, and develop business opportunities.
Among the recent highlights was participation in IEEE Convene, an event that brought together more than 250 leaders and decision-makers from the global IEEE conference community. As part of these efforts, Puerto Rico secured the 2028 Meeting Series, received five active RFPs, and identified an additional 15 to 20 prospects.
The destination’s presence also extended to several industry events in Chicago. During AMC Institute’s Engaged, the team connected with approximately 150 association management professionals, while the PCMA Greater Midwest Pickleball Tournament provided an opportunity to connect with meetings professionals and continue building relationships. In Boston, Discover Puerto Rico sponsored an event hosted by the PCMA and MPI New England chapters at Fenway Park, bringing together approximately 200 suppliers and planners.
In Puerto Rico, the agenda included the first fiscal-year meeting of the Sales & Revenue Advisory Board (SRAB) and the Puerto Rico Convention Center Citywide Committee. The meeting brought together 52 participants, including 22 industry partners, to discuss tentative programs and share updates on participating properties.
The sports segment also had a strong local presence with the NCS Caribbean World Series, held across Cataño, Bayamón, Toa Baja, and Dorado. The tournament brought together more than 120 youth teams and 1,800 athletes in age categories ranging from 6U to 18U, with representation from Puerto Rico, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It also became the largest youth baseball tournament held to date in Cataño.
