Sports Events Calendar in Puerto Rico Strengthens Tourism
The Caribbean World Series leads Puerto Rico’s sports calendar in the coming months, with the participation of more than 230 teams and over 3,000 players. This event is part of Discover Puerto Rico’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Island’s positioning within the sports tourism segment.
The tournament, featuring teams from Puerto Rico, the United States, and other countries in the region, will take place from July 24 to 29 across multiple venues in the metropolitan area, including San Juan, Cataño, Dorado, Bayamón, and Carolina. It is estimated to generate more than 2,500 hotel room nights and an economic impact of approximately $2.8 million.
Another key event on the calendar is the Perfect Game Puerto Rico Festival, a youth baseball tournament for players ages 10 to 14, with an expected participation of 16 to 18 teams, including local teams as well as teams from the United States and the Dominican Republic.
The event will be held from July 16 to 21 at several venues in the metropolitan area. While it has been hosted on the Island before, the 2026 edition will mark the first time it includes international teams. In addition to competing, players and their families contribute to the local economy through on-island spending. An economic impact exceeding $400,000 is projected.
In basketball, from May 9 to 13, the United States Naval Academy (Navy) men’s team will visit Puerto Rico for the first time to hold training sessions and exhibition games against collegiate players and teams from the Puerto Rican Basketball League. Games will take place at the Guillermo Angulo Coliseum in Carolina and will be open to the public free of charge.
Beyond tournaments and exhibition games, Discover Puerto Rico also supports educational and professional development events, such as sports-sector conferences and conventions. One example is the annual conference of the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM), which will take place at the Sheraton Convention Center Hotel. Estimated attendance is 250-300 participants. This event is expected to generate approximately $465,000 in economic impact and around 865 hotel room nights.
Additionally, on May 16, Ana G. Méndez University in Carolina will host the Puerto Rico Sports Performance Summit, a conference focused on sports medicine that will bring together high-level experts from the United States, including representatives from Major League Baseball teams and other professional leagues. The event aims to provide workshops and professional development opportunities for local students and professionals.
The variety of this sports calendar highlights Puerto Rico’s capacity to host a wide range of events, from competitions to conventions, supported by its infrastructure and professional talent. This continues to position the Island as a competitive destination within the sports tourism segment.
