Throughout October, Discover Puerto Rico held two Conversemos workshops in the municipalities of Moca and Aguada as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the capabilities of the tourism sector in the western region. Both sessions brought together around 30 merchants, municipal representatives, and members of the local tourism ecosystem.
Strengthening local capacities: merchants receive training in Moca and Aguada
In Moca, the workshop emphasized the importance of collaboration between merchants and organizations, addressing topics such as public relations, effective communication with media and audiences, and ways local businesses can collaborate with Discover Puerto Rico to expand their reach. Participants also received practical guidance on creating QR codes—a useful tool for promoting products, experiences, and digital resources in an accessible way.
Meanwhile, the Aguada session focused on crisis management and responsible social media practices, highlighting how merchants can prepare to respond to unexpected situations and protect their digital reputation. It also included information about the La IDEA educational program, which continues to be a key initiative in strengthening small and medium-sized tourism businesses across Puerto Rico.
Both workshops reflected the participants’ enthusiasm and commitment to building a more solid, professional, and sustainable tourism offering. These spaces for dialogue reaffirm the importance of collaboration among communities, merchants, and the destination marketing organization in driving the continued development of Puerto Rico’s tourism industry.
