Antiguo Acueductos del río Piedras

About

For more than a century, the Aqueduct promoted the growth of the city along its mainline and through its branches to the rest of the neighborhoods throughout the city. The historic site is an oasis within the urbanized atmosphere of San Juan. It covers approximately 24 r of which nine are managed by Para la Naturaleza and include a two-kilometer segment of the Piedras River. The historic site is formed by a small dam that used to take water from the Piedras River and a house with keys or valves, six sedimentation and filtration ponds, a steam engine house with its coal deposit and an employee house.

Since 2005, the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico assumed custody of the place with the interest of preserving and restoring its facilities for the benefit of the people of Puerto Rico. The plans of Para la Naturaleza seek to take advantage of the water/history binomial to turn the place into a space for scientific and ecological research, recreation and education in relation to the water resource.
