Parroquia Santuario Protomártires de la Inmaculada Concepción (Ermita de Espinar)

About

The Ermita de Espinar was originally founded between 1516 and 1523 by Catholic friars coming from Santo Domingo with the purpose of converting local indigenous populations. The temple was an important location for the Franciscan order until it was abandoned in 1867. In the mid 20th century renewed interest in the ruins led to its reconstruction, and the process was finished in 1971. The Parroquia Santuario Protomártires de la Inmaculada Concepción is the only church on the Island whose original ruins are conserved in the interior of a modern temple that replicates the original.
