Afternoon: Relax at a Beach Bar with Live Music

Wind down under the Caribbean sun at one of the many beaches along the shores of San Juan and Carolina. Beaches like Ocean Park and Isla Verde have accessible parking, plus plenty of cafes and bars with live music to unwind while being steps away from the beach. A popular spot to lounge on bean bags in the sand, sip a refreshing drink, and enjoy the waves and music is Numero Uno Beach. One of the most well-known music spots is Vivo Beach Club, which hosts plenty of live musical acts, along with pool, beachside amenities, and is the home of local beer Ocean Lab Brewing Co. Nothing is more relaxing than having a delicious piña colada or a refreshing local craft beer by the water!

It’s the night of the big event! Whether your concert or music festival is at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot, Hiram Bithorn StadiumDISTRITO T-Mobile’s Popular Plaza, or Coca-Cola Music Hall, you’ll always be in for a show. If you’re feeling like an after-party is in order, a couple of great places that are open until late are Fifty EightClub Brava, and 7eight7. Just be sure to party safely, as local laws in San Juan changed in late 2023 to include a curfew on alcohol sales, as well as noise levels.

  • Sunday-Thursday: Sales stop at 1:00 am
  • Friday-Saturday: Sales stop at 2:00 am

Day 3 – Brunch and Bomba Beats

Morning: Rainforest Adventures

Ready for a change of pace? Head to the Eastern municipality of Río Grande,  located about an hour away from San Juan. Start the day with an easy brunch at Ekelekua or Lluvia Deli Bar & Artefacto. Then, immerse yourself in the luscious beauty of the Yunque National Forest. Road trips go great with music, and we've curated a great selection for you to jam out to! 

If you’re feeling something more relaxing, you can walk on some of the forest’s easier trails and enjoy yourself. Maybe even jump into one of the water holes to cool off! Feeling more adventurous? Head up to Yókahu Tower for a more intense hike and an amazing view of the Yunque's verdant hills.

Afternoon: Puerto Rican Bomba Class or Tour

Explore some of Puerto Rico’s African legacy with a bomba class on your way back to San Juan in Loíza, the cultural hub for the Island’s Afro-Latino traditions, like the ones offered at the Escuela de Bomba y Plena Doña Caridad Brenes de Cepeda or the Don Rafael Cepeda School of Bomba and Plena. The Cepeda family has been a pillar of this genre for many generations, so it’s a great place to learn about its history and try the drums or dance. These workshops are interactive, educational, and rooted in community.
